Bourns pots are simply one of the best out there for your instrument. With super smooth rotation, long life and a range of values for every need, give your instrument the pots it deserves. No load pots take the resistance to ground out of the circuit at full volume, preveting loading down the pickups and increasing output and treble response. These pots come with either 6mm knurled shafts with18 teeth, or 6.35mm plain shafts. Make sure you match your knobs to the shaft size or you may end up with wobble in the rotation, or worse, a damaged pot from trying to force the knob on. These 24mm pots drop in the same footprint as CTS pots and are excellent if you wna that more classic feel of a larger diameter pot.
NOTE; No load pots need more pressure to initially turn as the wiper is lifted. As such, they feel a bit different to regular pots and may require a different pressure to do swells or pinky movements.
Which pot will fit my instrument?
Bourns pots come in 2 shaft lengths, long and short.
Short; short shafts fit most flat top guitars and many imported LP style guitars. They'll comfortably go through material up to 6.5mm thick and still be able to be secured by a nut. Easily fits all pickguard material, but check the thickness of your instruments top if it's rear routed.
Long; long shafts fit everything else that requires more length due to contouring or a thicker top. They're a straight drop in for Les Pauls and archtop shredder guitars like the ESP Horizon and Jackson Soloist. To secure them properly we supply and extra nut so you can have just the right amount of thread above the hole.
What value should I use?
That depends on your pickups and the sound you want! The higher the value, the higher your output at full volume will be, and the more treble you'll let through. So if you have some real shrill pickups, a lower value can help tame them. If you want more bite, then a higher value like a 1meg pot will give you more output and treble. The only exception to this are active pickups which almost universally use 25K pots. Using 25K pots with a passive pickup will result in low output and mud and using high value pots with active pickups can cause a strange taper when rolling the pot and a brittle sound.
